Countdown to the Golden Globes — the only major awards honouring both film and television — begins with a Toronto party during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The Golden Globes begin the countdown to their 83rd awards with the 2025 Road to the Golden Globes party in Toronto on Sept. 6, three days into TIFF. 

This party is nothing new. It’s actually part of a longstanding tradition. The Golden Globes has held the countdown party on the first weekend of TIFF for almost two decades. This year’s event is in partnership with the Royal Bank of Canada and Four Seasons Hotel Toronto in Yorkville.

TIFF is celebrating its 50th festival this year, and Four Seasons Hotel Toronto’s general manager Patrick Pollak says that the hotel has stood at the epicentre of TIFF festivities for the past five decades. 

The hotel is close to TIFF’s former head office in the festival’s early days, before the move to King Street West. The old neighbourhood remains a prime spot for A-list stars during the festival and for film productions shot nearby.

The Golden Globes’ official kickoff party is backed by RBC, Canada’s biggest bank, and the Four Seasons, the award-winning luxury hotel known worldwide for its travel and tourism accolades.

The Golden Globes hold a unique place in the industry, uniting the worlds of film and television in one of Hollywood’s biggest celebrations of creativity. The show, filmed in Hollywood, is the first major award show of the season. A nomination announcement follows on Dec. 8. The award show airs on Jan. 11 in the new year.
